We advised Microsoft on the launch of an information crowd-sourcing tool during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in India. The tool crowdsourced health information and helpline numbers for oxygen, medicines, and hospital beds. Here, the challenge was providing accurate information while minimizing the risk of liability for the search engine. We developed solutions to ensure effective content moderation through a mix of automated and manual screening. We also provided actionable advice which could be easily implemented by the client’s cross-functional teams working at break-neck speed to address the urgent situation on-ground.
